Our MP recognises the importance of the arts as part of Nelson’s identity and successfully sponsored the new Bishop Suter Art Gallery Act through Parliament.

On top of the long hours he puts in each week representing us in Parliament, Nick makes himself available for constituents at Nelson’s Market each Saturday, rain or shine.

Our MP has an impressive record of environmental achievements through his role in creating the Kahurangi and Rakiura National Parks, all three Nelson Marine Reserves and most recently as Chair of the Hoddy Estuary Park Trust.

6 Nick’s skills add value
Parliament needs more people with technical skills like Nick’s PhD in civil engineering and that was recognised in March with his election as a Fellow of Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand.

Few MPs put their neck on the line the way Nick does standing up for constituents done an injustice. Most recently he battled for the Ashton family following the tragic death of their daughter Debbie, in exposing failings in the justice system.

He understands the importance of families and has been strongly behind the local campaign to support fundraising for Herceptin and the campaign to ensure it is publicly funded.

Nick believes in the philosophy “a child in sport stays out of court”. He has worked hard with Councils to get the new netball, basketball, volleyball and table tennis Saxton Fields stadium underway and funded.
